M.Ed. Teaching German
At the RWTH Aachen the study is possible for two teaching positions: Teaching German at technical colleges ["Vocational School Teacher"] and Teaching German at grammar schools and comprehensive schools ["Gymnasium and Gesamtschule Teacher"]. The first phase of the teacher training consists of the six semester Bachelor's programme and the four semester Master's programme. The second phase in NRW is the 18-month internship.
General information on the structure, prerequisites and programme of study can be found in the study programme descriptions of the RWTH Aachen University:
In the teaching profession-related Master's programme, two subjects are usually studied in which teaching takes place later. The course of study in German comprises courses
- in older and newer literature studies, offered by the Institute for German Studies and General Literature Studies,
- linguistics and communication studies, offered by the Institute for Linguistics and Communication Science
- and the teaching and research area Didactics German.
Students choose a literary or linguistic specialisation in which they attend corresponding in-depth modules. In the first two semesters, the focus is on teaching and school practice. In the first semester, the winter semester, topics for research questions in German language teaching are developed and in the second semester, the summer semester, practical semesters are implemented.
Students study according to the latest subject-specific examination regulations M.Ed. "Gymnasium/Gesamtschule" and "Berufskolleg" (10/2017).
